[ WideEyed Wanderers[ WIDEEYED WANDERERS ] By Ligato Richard Author May232005 Paperback Richard Ligato 8601417600887 Books Reviews

  • I am a sucker for overland tales like this one anyway, so I shouldn't be surprised about how much I enjoyed these tales. Written in a down to earth, easy narrative, it provides us with snapshots of this amazing three year journey. The tone of e book was so easy, I didn't even get overly perturbed by the obvious contempt for the obese the author obviously has!
  • I throughly enjoyed this book. What I like best is that this couple decided that they wanted to do some living TOGETHER. Family time. They reevaluated priorities and live more than most.
  • We are currently in the middle of our own little road trip (tiny in comparison to the Ligatos' epic adventures), but this was a fantastic read to start the journey! Rich's humor and interesting anecdotes made it a real page-turner, and I couldn't help but notice some similarities between their relationship and my own. I especially enjoyed the way that each chapter would dive into complex subjects (such as apartheid) in an unbiased approach, never influencing the reader's thoughts, yet painting a very authentic picture thru the impression of locals. There was often a valuable lesson to be learned, and I enjoyed taking those moments to reflect and put myself in their shoes. I felt the heavy hit of each low point, but it was great to see how Rich and Amanda would eventually conquer with laughter and determination. Inspiring and eye-opening indeed!
  • I loved this book! It's well written, entertaining and the journey was amazing! I highly recommend this book to anybody who, like me, is stuck in life and dreams of casting it all aside and hitting the open road. I'm inspired!
  • Entertaining reading. Well worth picking up!
  • Team tells good story. They had regular jobs with the Coronado city government (not a bad place to work, or spend leisure time). Decided to take off and explore for awhile in a VW pop top (same color as my own, much further back) in a low-budget, non-rushing style. They headed over the border at TJ, hit places in Mexico, then Central America. From Panama, they put the VW on a boat to Ecuador. On to Chile, Argentina, Brazil, etc. Finally another big decision and they shipped the VW on over to Africa. End result -- 3 years out there. Very slow pace, almost always at campgrounds or behind hotels, etc. Many amazing stories, border cops demanding bribes, hustlers always, etc. And for those who enjoy either seeing the world or reading about other's travels, may I suggest [...], my recent book about my own 6-months adventure travel to 27 countries in that wild year.
  • The Ligatos have accomplished a goal that most of us only dream of. Their 3-year adventure is both heartwarming and nail-biting. They tell their stories with such clarity and passion that you can't help but get wrapped up in their adventures.

Being totally non-mechanical, I was fascinated with their tales of keeping their old VW running -- but they met such wonderful characters because it, that it wouldn't have been half as much fun in a more modern cruiser!

This book is a must read for anyone who has ever dreamed of just taking off and letting life happen. A truly great read.
  • If you're sick of your 9-5 job and living to work instead of working to live, this is the book for you! Easy read and great inspiration to travel the world.
